I happen to be walking from my living room to my kitchen and glanced out the sliding glass door when Something "hopping" across my yard caught my eye. I knew it wasn't a rabbit or a cat and in a few short seconds it dawned on me A FARRET!

Well my granddaughter an I were able to "capture" him quite quickly and the hunt for the owners began. However it was Labor Day week-end and most people were not home. We did however through phone calls manage to figure out who the owners were and of course they were not home.

So here I am with a farett and no idea what to do. Let me mention I also have a 10mo old maltese puppy who couldn't have been more pleased!

I didn't have a proper cage so I started making phone calls as it looked at the very least I would have my guest for a day or two. I happen to be telling my saga to my older son who said he thought his girlfriend may have a ferret cage as her daughter had a "fuzzie" at one time. Sure enough about an hour later they pulled up. Not only did she have a ferret cage she had a 5 foot cage with four floors and tubes to crawl through coming out of the top! This should have been a sign!

Well to make a long story short, the week-end ended, the owners came home and low and behold they "don't know how he got out" but through conversation it was apparent they really didn't want their "Ziggy". I know, I know, I have a lot to say about that but I'll contain myself.

So guess what, now I have Ziggy and his 5 foot condo! I must admit it didn't take long for him to become part of our "family". He and the dog are BFF and our cat just looks at him like he's loco and walks away. So now I'm spending my time learning about these little cuties and am hoping to give him a long and happy life, as we found out he's only 8 mo old! I've always said about pets "We chose them, they didn't choose us , we owe them a good life."

Anyway thanks for all the tips and letting me tell our story, I must say we are having tons of fun and "adventure"!

Go Ziggy! Go Ziggy!

Lovely story (even though the previous owners were less than lovely...).

I'm so glad you decided to keep Ziggy. I guess he knew which garden to hop around in to get a happy home :-)

It also gives me great pleasure that my site was able to help you. Haven't worked on it for quite a while but your story makes me want to write more tips and advice.

Ziggy obviously has an amazing advice on ferrets and dogs just click on the link. Though it really sounds like you don't need any. As for the cat...well, it's a cat, they do have a mind of their own and seem to prefer to simply ignore other pets if they're not worthy of the cat's attention ;-)

Good luck with Ziggy!
